Considering my work in the real world
For this blog post we have to consider how our work will have an influence on the real world or its aim even. We are using some prop questions to resolve this matter.
What influence could your project have in the real world?
My project could influence the real world by making individuals consider themselves, meaning how they feel about themselves and redefine themselves. This, by taking into account the fallen angel as everyone is fallen in their own ways either due to actions they did and have now regretted or due to other personal factors that have happened to them that make them feel lost as if they do not belong. It can be used as an empowering tool as "wearing our mistakes" while consequently learning from them and normalising them as we are all human.
Will your project show a point of view or show something that might make people think differently?
Yes it will make people think differently as they will show the real world their real selves and embrace the fact that no one is perfect and everyone can have a period of their lives where they do not think clearly and that it is okay. We are all humans who make mistakes and it has to be accepted and normalised.
How else does your work have influence?
It also has an influence into body shaming and stereotypes. It will embrace people to also wear whatever they want and still look good. Either one is considered a plus size or is being body shamed, one can wear it and show haters that they can embrace what they are wearing as they feel confident and beautiful in it without any judgement.
Why is it important?
It is important as people often shame people instead of supporting them and this has to stop as it is okay and normal to be different as no one is the same.
I am hoping to share the messages of normalising body shapes and people wearing whatever they want as they feel powerful in it but also embrace mistakes and that it is okay. I believe it is important for works to have real world context as without it, it is just a piece of clothing without any context and meaning that is just good looking.
A designer which I am very fond of is Rihanna. Rihanna created the Savage x Fenty collection which is a lingerie collection that fits all. She uses plus size models, underweight, petite and tall to show that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and colours and that this is what beauty is. She is revolutionising the concept of body image and body confidence to embrace that different is normal and beautiful. Since the launch of the brand in 2017 many people have been empowered to post about their bodies and feel beautiful in their own skin (Newbold, 2018).
This is much better in terms of directing your project idea towards your research, there is a clearer sense of purpose here - I think this task has so far been of more benefit. Get your sketches from todays class on your blog so I can see how you are thinking of developing your idea and how that would work for a real world audience. Well done.
