Set Project: Artist Research-Nensi Dojaka

This next artist which I will be looking at is Nensi Dojaka. I had been seeing her designs all over my feeds and Pinterest until one day I researched a bit more and finally found the designer behind my favourite designs.

Nensi Dojaka

Nensi Dojaka is an Albanian designer who recently graduated from Central Saint Martins London (Sutherland, 2020). Her journey with fashion began at a young age when she got a Miu Miu dress for her birthday and loved how soft, delicate and poetic it was which is what she hopes her clothes portray nowadays. Central Saint Martins appealed to her most compared to other schools as the teaching allows you to explore and revolve around your identity which she finds empowering (Carter, 2020). Her brand has managed to become an it brand so fast due to her innovative designs that feature a 90s aesthetic, asymmetry and sheer fabrics. Her brand skyrocketed as well due to Bella Hadid who is a worldwide known model wore her designs and posted them. She firstly became known due to showcasing her graduate designs at the London Fashion Week and got everyone mesmerised. Nensi majored in lingerie design and her aim is to empower the modern woman. SSENCE contacted Nensi about buying her MA collection and the support shown pushed her into creating her own label and begin working on her SS20 AND AW20 collection to show the world. Avant guard is the design of her designs which showcase deconstruction, free femininity and the fragility of women and empowerment. Her style which is layering silky fabrics and mesh on top of each other showcase roughness and sensitivity by having a strong layer and then other softer lines on the edges (Curti, 2020). Dojaka always has an envision before creating any collection by always basing it on her mood in the beginning of the thoughts for the designs and then just layers the fabrics on a mannequin and then thats her vision to work on. Her goal is to empower women and portray them as stunning, dangerous yet fun. Due to Dojaka having a BA in lingerie what comes off naturally is her need to apply details on her designs like mini straps but also embrace each woman's silhouettes differently and motivate them to embrace it. Overall the theme of her collections are the woman. She states that women carry delicacy but severity and that is what is showcased on each of her pieces, from the construction, the sewing and composition (Przybyla, 2020). Overall Nensi Dojaka is one of my favourite new emerging artists as I believe she is revolutionary, unique but also is passionate about her work and does what she loves. I am also a fan of her as she combines different themes into her work but has one main aim which is urging the average woman to be powerful and break the norm. Her technique is also mind blowing and the way she talks about her work and women is just immaculate.

  1. Some really good research here, but would like to hear more about how this is having an impact on your project and if you are using the attitude demonstrated by Dojaka in your project. I am not disputing that it indeed has links to your idea/concept, but you could state more clearly in what way this is helping you to develop your work.
    Also, correct referencing please!
