Set Project Foundation Basis 2: Meaning of the colour black
When creating a collection, or when one starts working on a specific piece it is important to consider the deeper elements of their theme. Even though my concept is "The Fallen Angel", the theme is Ultimate Black. I decided to research the meaning of the colour Black. The reason in which I want to incorporate this mini research is because I want to understand the true "colours" of the colour black and not just look at it as a fashionable, illusion making colour.
Black can be used as a representation for:- mystery
- power
- authority
- strength
- elegance
- formality
- fear
- death
- agression
- authority
- evil
and many more.
The colour black can also be associated with negativity, the unknown and mysteriousness. On the other hand too much black can result to overwhelming and can also be associated with grief in many cultures. Whats amazing in my opinion is that the colour black can be used in many ways to represent emotions. It can be used to represent sadness, fear and grieving but can also be used as a colour in professional areas where too much colour prevents concentration but also as a sexy colour that boosts confidence and power.
Black can also be associated with depression as when one does not wear many happy colours he or she cannot show any emotions but sometimes it really just depends on preferences. Also if one wears too much black he or she protects himself from the negativity around him.

Black has so many connotations and evokes such a wide range of emotions that it simultaneously has both positive and negative impacts. I think it is important that you make clear in these posts, which direction you are intending to take with your use of black, the kinds of emotions, atmosphere and impressions that you are trying to evoke with your use of black.
