Set Project: Project Ideas and Plan
Name: Evdoxia Vasilis
Major Project Title: Azazel
Progression Route: Fashion Design
Describe your Set Project using the SMART acronym
I will be creating 4 2D designs using Photopea to edit, maquette and felt pen and a scanner. This term in comparison with the last term we have to create a 3D piece. I will explore sewing techniques and bleaching techniques. Unfortunately the 3D design will not be made out of sustainable materials nor the 2D designs as this collection will be an affordable one aimed at ages 18-23. I will try my best to find materials which are partially organic/sustainable and are not expensive. The reason why this collection will not be sustainable is because sustainable materials are expensive and this has to be a cheaper and affordable collection as the ages mentioned above most do not possess much money to afford luxury wear. The theme of this collection will be Ultimate Black, hence the colour palette will be tones of black but the concept will be the Fallen Angel. I am very passionate with etherial themes hence creating a grunge etherial kind of concept (etherial minimalism) which is the concept of the fallen angel makes me even more passionate. The approach of this collection will be minimalism, slinky black dresses and two pieces but most will involve graphics which is what I will be exploring most (and how to edit it on the editing software). The 3D outcome will also contain graphics using bleach hence that is something new for me. The 5 piece collection will be casual night wear and will be a Spring/Summer 2021 collection. The designers I will be looking at are Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Nensi Dojaka. For some sketches ideas i will be looking at Ed Hardy's tattoo designs. I have 9 weeks to complete this project and all the process will be documented on my blog and the final outcomes with the explanation of the portfolio on my website
Why have you chosen to do this project?
Because I love grunge and etherial minimalistic clothes and I believe that combining these themes together will produce an amazing outcome for the Fallen angel concept. Additionally I have not seen many clothes involving graphics of the fallen angel in a way hence I enjoy exploring something new and unique.
Who are you researching on this project? Please list at least three artists and/or designers and your additional research on your concept
I will research Ed Hardy, Nensi Dojaka, Alexander McQueen, Gucci and partial complex geometries just to get an idea of their brand. Additional research will include "The lady of Shallot" due to the essence the painting gives and research on the fallen angel which is the main focus. Additionally I will be researching partially organic materials and materials in general and the trends I will be using in more depth.
What techniques/skills are you developing/learning for this project?
I will be enhancing my researching and editing techniques, I will be exploring bleaching and sewing techniques and I will be exploring my graphic techniques.
What do you expect the final outcome of the project to be?
I expect it to be a casual night wear collection involving 3 2 pieces, 2 dresses which is affordable, grunge and accentuates the fallen angel in a modern way.
What have you completed so far for this project?
I have completed the research for the name of the collection, a story behind the collection, a recap of my ideas
What do you think will be the issues/drawbacks to the project?
The fact that it will not be sustainable as such and the hazards of using bleach but if it is used correctly and safely I do not think there will be a problem.
What is your timescale considering that this has to be completed by Week 10?
Until the end of week 4 I hope to have completed my research and let the other weeks for the creation (more detail below)
Week Three: Post on the trends I will be using and explain in depth, small research on the meaning of the colour black, research on the fallen angel
Week Four: research on the lady of shallot, research on designers, research on materials
Week Five: I will begin visualising my pieces and post individually the materials i will need, the inspiration for each piece
Week Six:I will create my logo for the second time but i have not decided which software to use yet. I will begin drawing my designs on paper and scanning them into a digital form
Week Seven: I will begin digitalising the pieces and post the steps for each piece on my blog
Week Eight: I will begin working on my 3D piece and document the process.
Week Nine: I will put my designs into a flipbook along with the logo and write the commentary and post on the live website.
This is fine, but for your 3D element do you think you should give yourself a bit more time to complete and gather your materials for this? If the planning of the 3D piece is woven into the earlier weeks make that clear.
