Further research & the direction of my project

The research so far for my project has been progressing almost according to plan. The research I have carried until now includes research on Ed Hardy, Alexander McQueen, Nensi Dojaka, research on materials, the lady of shallot, primary research, project development in the real world, considering my project in the real world, meaning of black, complex geometries, fallen angel, trends of spring/summer 2021 and name for the collection. McQueen is a British fashion who revolutionised the fashion industry as he created garments which empowered people to express themselves though clothing and tell a story. Ed Hardy was an American tattoo artist who accomplished to turn the title of tattoos into a form of art and based his designs on stories. Nensi Dojaka is a new designer which studied lingerie making at central saint martins hence creates clothes that accentuate female bodies and empower them through detail, draping and specific fabrics. The research on materials was to find out which mediums to use to create my garments, the lady of shallot is  a poem turned into a painting and I used it due to its aura and feeling it gives off along with the etherial aesthetic. The primary research was to understand my audience needs in clothing and pricing. The considering my project in the real world was based on body and mistakes embracement and how the project will empower people to love themselves and the project development in the real world was to embrace parts of a womans body and I chose the free the nipple movement. The colour black was researched to find out its meanings and hues, complex geometries is a brand who creates clothes that are based on geometric shapes and are imperfect which I liked as no one is perfect and it embraces that. The fallen angel research explains how angels become fallen and their backstory of how they emerged on this earth, the trends portrayed minimalism, toss the floss and mesh along with others and the name of my collection was based through research on Azazel which is a fallen angel.

How has my research, so far, informed my project?

My research so far has informed my project as I can now better understand the goals of my project and what target audience to follow. In addition I have been motivated to create even better pieces than the ones I had in mind as I now can better understand the aims one sets for his collections meaning for Azazel, its aim is to embrace body positivity and acceptance and that you are loved. In addition I am now informed of the trends of this season in addition to those of last term as trends constantly evolve as fashion is a fast growing sector. My project has also been informed as I have studied the different techniques one can use to trick the mind and help one feel comfortable in their own skin without feeling insecure. I have also built an image which I will follow to accentuate the backstory of my collection and give it a more realistic feel.

How useful has my research been?

My research has been extremely useful as even though as people we believe we are aware of every topic , research is always needed to put ourselves in the skin of our collection. The research has helped me to better understand my theme, make me even more passionate about my collection as I have looked at designers who never though they would make it but are now icons which inspire people like me and make me believe that if I truly love what I do it will do great. In addition I am now fully aware of the trends and which I would like to incorporate into my collection as it is a small collection but also put my all in it to bring out the best that I can. The research on artwork, movements and designers has been contextual as it made me want to incorporate elements in the collection which not are not only stunning style wise but ethic wise. I now know the name of my collection, its movement, its ethics, its backstory, its designs and its materials but also price.

What further research will i carry out next to build on previous?

The other research elements will be Gucci, some sketches accentuating the anatomy of a piece of the collection but also exploration with different mediums to allow myself to remember the techniques used in previous terms for the 3D piece, further research based on existing knowledge on sewing skills for the 3D piece, secondary research and interviews to better understand my buyers and also even more inspirational research on designs to open my horizons.

How will the further research inform my work?

It will inform my work as I will have looked at many designers and understand each others ethics to get inspired from them, the sketches will help my designing skills along with the mini 3d work to give me an idea of what I like and what needs improvement. The sewing skills will help me accentuate my 3D design and the secondary research to perfect my target audience.
