Project Development in the real world
A concept which I am thinking of embracing into this collection including self love, body positivity and acceptance is the free the nipple movement. No matter how big or small I believe that the free the nipple movement is as empowering as it gets. And why would it be sexualised?
In general what angers me most is that whatever women do or wear tends to be sexualised, taking into consideration how much the numbers in rapes have increased over the year and how low women are still seen in society by individuals. The reason why I want to incorporate it in my collection is because as a woman sometimes bras are unnecessary either due to not fitting well or showing in an outfit and destroying the look (Petersen, 2018). Either if this movement comes in being too revealing or that no one knows you are not wearing a bra, I support it. It is also an empowering tool to show that women are more than just objects with nice features or that men are just talking to women to unveil more. That is wrong hence this movement is embracing body safety, character, comfort and empowerment (other source). It is also used as a feminism and gender equality tool. For example why are not men wearing bras even if they have nipples too and women have to wear bras? It is just a part of the body that both genders have and it should be equal and accepted, not sexualised.
I believe that every woman can relate to this, as how many times did you catch a man staring there? Why? It is something that should be normalised and not be judged.

These sketches also helped me with my graphic work.
This research in combination with your earlier research post on Ed Hardy works together well. This is incredibly passionate, but you have at the same time worked your aesthetic into your message. Follow up with some colour development based on these sketches, that support your idea and help 'sell' your message.
ReplyDeleteHaving read the article you cite at the end of this post, (but not seen the Netflix documentary) it is clear to me that this has the potential to be a really powerful piece of work.
