My biggest inspiration

welcome to my blog:)

My name is Evdoxia Vasilis and i have just entered adulthood and i am a fashion design student currently in my foundation year of art&design studying IYZ digital arts at DMU alongside with other modules. I chose fine arts as I have a strong passion regarding fashion design as i love designing clothes, bags, shoes and accessories that make both women and men equally feel powerful, confident and comfortable with their bodies.Additionally my mother is a fashion designer hence i grew up with fashion and art being all around me. Reading my blog will allow you to join me in this new chapter of my life doing something i love.

My biggest inspiration is Gianni Versace as i believe that he revolutionised fashion and designed statement pieces and collections that are timeless and will always be in style.

Even after his death almost 23 years later his designs are inspirations to everyone. In 19 years Gianni Versace managed to build an empire. Before he became one of the biggest designers in the world, Versace grew up in the city of Reggio Calabria in Italy, where he learned how to design dresses from his mother. Versace’s mother was a dressmaker and he would learn new things when he visited her in her workshop. He eventually moved to Milan, where he established the Versace brand(1).

Also Gianni had other charismas other than a fashion designer. He was involved in several screen productions, as a designer as well as an actor. He was selected for acting in Look (television show) in 1994, VH1 Fashion and Music Awards (movie) in 1995, Catwalk (documentary film) in 1996, and Spice World in 1997. Gianni designed costumes for A Life Less Ordinary, Ballet for Life and VH1 Fashion Awards in 1997; The Birdcage, Mad Dog Time, and Shakespeare Shorts in 1996; Judge Dredd, Magic of David Copperfield XVI: Unexplained Forces, Showgirls, and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar in 1995; Kika, and Born Yesterday in 1993; Cin cin, and Once Upon a Crime in 1992; Vacanze di Natale in 1991; and several more(2).

Gianni became one of the most famous designers as he was one of the first designers to invite celebrities to his shows and by producing ensembles that oozed sensuality and sexuality. His most iconic pieces included sophisticated bondage gear, polyvinyl chloride baby-doll dresses, and silver-mesh togas(3).

Versace looked to his muses for inspiration, and utilized aspects of their personalities for his collections. What i admire is that he wanted women to feel powerful and showed that with his friendship with his supermodel and friend Naomi Campbell(4).

On July 15 1997 Gianni Versace was shot outside his home in the most gruesome way. Cunanan a well known serial killer who killed gay men even though he was gay too approached the famed Italian designer as he returned to his Miami Beach mansion after a morning trip to a nearby café. Cunanan opened fire at point-blank range, shooting Versace twice in the back of the head(5). The reason is still unknown but what is for sure it that Versaces death shocked the fashion world and turned it upside down for quite along time. Even though Donatella Versace(his sister) took over the brand versace will never be the same with Giannis' absence.
