Primary Research Results
In the previous post I began browsing questions for my primary research and posted them along with the questionnaire. The aim of my research was to conduct about 5-10 responses and ended up having 14 responses in order to come to a conclusion whether my collection would sell in real life or not. In addition to that I wanted to see female students preferences about clothing, prices and opinions. I gathered information in regards to the most necessary clothing in a summer wardrobe, average money spent on a product and if clothes help one feel empowered but also how they see that society views them when they wear certain clothes. The research was conducted on females only as this is a women's spring/summer collection.
On an average, it has been concluded that the most common age was 19, following with 20, 18, 17 and 21 which leads to the belief that the female respondents were all students. This statement was backed up by 100% of the respondents choosing 'student' instead of other. In addition to my statement that fashion is used as a way of expressing ourselves, the 92.9% answered that they use fashion as a tool of expressing theirselves and the 7.1% as a way of looking cool and hip. From the response of the cool and hip I concluded that again it is a way to express ourselves and preferences but also feeling good. The 71.4% stated that they would wear clothes that complement their figure even if they were not considered conservative, but the other 28.6% stated otherwise which is that they would not. On the question about whether one is afraid to wear something bold and different due to being judged the 42.9% stated that they were not afraid at all, following with not afraid to 28.6% followed by the 14.3% being somewhere in between followed by the other 14.2% being afraid. What can be concluded is that some people have managed to overcome the problem of being afraid of being judged but the others still have not and again this is society's problem and this is just a shame from society. As a society we should encourage people to express themselves and wear whatever they want without judging as that is sexist and wrong. The 85.7% stated that they would wear clothes if they were part of a positive movement which is about accepting the different which indicates that people want to change the view of society and show support towards being different and that it is okay and normal. The other 14.3% stated that they would not and it is okay as it is their opinion and personal option. Again the 85.7% stated that they would like to feel empowered in their clothes whilst the other 14.3% said maybe. 78.6% said that they do not always wear sustainable clothes whilst the other 21.4% said that they always do. The 38.5% stated that sustainable clothes are affordable whilst the other 61.5% stated that they are not affordable which again leads to my main point that most students cannot afford sustainable clothing hence my collection in order to sell has to be affordable hence not fully sustainable. The most common spent on a bottom was 40 pounds (50%) following 30 pounds (28.6%) following 50 (14.3%) and 60 pounds(7.1%) hence I believe the most common money spent would be 45 pounds. The average spent on a top was 35 pounds (50%) following 45 (21.4%) followed by 15 and 25 pounds with 14.3% each hence the average price would be 35 pounds. The most favoured bottoms were mini skirts and shorts with 57.1% each following long pants/flares with 50% and then maxi skirts with 21.4% hence this gave me a clear idea of what people are looking for. The most favoured top was "crop top" coming at 78.6% following "cut outs" with 57.1%, "open back" coming at 50%, then "strappy" at 35.7% and strapless at 28.6% hence I believe that I will incorporate Crop Tops, Cut outs and open back more. The responses on what one would wear on a casual summer dinner was skirt and top being the most common 35.7% followed by a dress on 28.6% following pants and top at 21.4% and jumpsuit at 14.3% hence I think I will incorporate 2 pieces and dresses more. 71.4% stated that they like graphics on clothes and 28.6% stated that they would not but the majority stated that they would like graphics on clothes hence I believe the collection would be a success.
The results for age were:
This is excellent - thorough and well thought through with some excellent analysis of the results. Next, follow this up with some secondary research based on these results. Ask yourself, how can you use the information you found during this survey? You could look at how High Street stores might use similar information to make their clothing more attractive to the people you surveyed, for example.
